MTV EMA Awards

The MTV EMA Awards this year happened on Sunday 8th November 2020 at 8pm. People could watch this show on MTV channel 5, or you could stream it through mtvema.com. It was also available to watch on NowTV or the MTV UK play app. The award show also got replayed again later at 10pm.

This year Little Mix were the host to this amazing award show. It wasn’t all four of the girls as Jesy didn’t participate due to health reasons. That meant Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock had to host the whole show with their team mate missing which I’m sure they were very upset about, however they still did an outstanding job of hosting.

This year was very different compared to past years of the MTV EMA’s due to Covid-19 causing a global pandemic. We had performances from around the world such as Doja cat in Los Angeles (USA), David Guetta in Bath (Hungary), Tate Mcrae in London, England and many more amazing artists. If we weren’t living in a global pandemic, the award show should have been in Hungary. Therefore, for 2021 the MTV EMA award show will be in Hungary.

The Winners were:

  • ‘Popstar’ DJ Khaled featuring Drake starring Justin Beiber - Best Video

  • Lady Gaga - Best Artist

  • Dynamite by BTS - Best Song

  • Tusa by Karol G featuring Nicki Minaj - Best Collaboration

  • Little Mix - Best Pop

  • BTS - Best Group

  • Doja Cat - Best New

  • BTS - Biggest Fans

  • Karol G - Best Latin

  • Coldplay - Best Rock

  • Cardi B - Best Hip Hop

  • David Guetta - Best Electronic

  • Hayley Williams - Best Alternative

  • I Can’t Breathe by H.E.R. - Video For Good

  • YungBlud - Best push

  • BTS BANG BANG CON the live - Best Virtual Live

  • Little Mix - Best UK & Ireland Act

As well as hosting the MTV EMA’s, Little mix also went and won the best pop award and the best UK & Ireland act. Little Mix have also just released their brand new album “Confetti’ (which is amazing by the way!). It seems like even though 2020 hasn’t been the best year for everyone, Little Mix must be very proud and happy with how far they have come. They also performed their new single, ‘Sweet Melody’ this year which was spectacular.

There were also many more incredible performances from acts such as Doja Cat, YungBlud, Sam Smith, David Guetta, Raye, Zara Larsson, DaBaby, Alicia Keys and many more. Also, the pre-show consisted of performances from Why Don’t We, Madison Beer and 24k Golden Iann Dior.

Talking about Little Mix’s performance of ‘Sweet Melody’, this performance was stunning. From their all white beautiful outfits that they wore to their extreme dance routine. They definitely did the best they could without fellow bandmate Jesy. It has been a long time since they have brought out a music video with a high amount of dance choreography, therefore this is why their new single of ‘Sweet Melody’ is iconic.

Back in 2018, Little Mix and Nicki Minaj came together with a memorable performance. Good Form by Nicki Minaj and Woman Like Me by Little Mix got put together as a mash up and it was awesome. It seems like Little Mix never seem to disappoint. This year makes it their second time performing at the MTV EMA awards and it definitely won’t be their last.

Who doesn't love a bit of Bieber? This year, the man himself has been nominated for 6 awards. This includes Best Canadian Act, Best Artist, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Biggest Fans, and Best Video as he starred in Popstar by DJ Khaled featuring Drake. He even won the award with DJ Khaled and Drake for Best Video this year. Justin Bieber has been to many MTV EMA awards over the past few years with his debut in 2011 where he won an award for Best Male and Best Pop Act.

Later on that evening he performed ‘Never Say Never’ and ‘Mistletoe’ which, by the way, are absolute tunes! Unfortunately, he didn’t have the opportunity to perform at the MTV EMA’s 2020, but that doesn’t mean he won’t next year.

Hopefully next year the world has gone back to normality and they can have a show with real life performances that have a real audience. Even though Covid-19 got in the way of a lot of things this year, it definitely did not stop MTV from hosting an amazing show with lots of artists from around the world together.
